For more information, visit www.ifc.org.The Global Transport team is seeking a Research Analyst to support its global business needs and will be based in Washington DC. The Research Analyst will work with the group's Investment Officers and Industry Specialists to conduct market analysis, data benchmarking, project modeling and cutting-edge report writing regarding sector and geographic trends in the transport industry. As such, strong research and writing skills are essential. The Research Analyst will have significant responsibilities managing knowledge dissemination in the transport sector across regional and project teams, including management of sector benchmarks, research of industry trends and organization of workshops and other events to share market developments and IFC experiences in the sector. Depending on the candidate's profile and interests, responsibilities may also include traditional investment analyst assignments on individual transport projects, as needed. Travel may be required for related work. The position provides an opportunity to hone sector experience in a specialized, growing and high impact area working closely with a group of senior IFC sector professionals.

Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 3 year term appointment.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Research and maintain a strong understanding of trends and developments in core transport sub-sectors, including in ports, airports, roads, mass transit, railways, logistics, inland waterways, shipping, airlines, etc;- Synthesize and convey in documents, Powerpoint presentations and blogs, key developments in the above areas (and others) for broader consumption;- Perform systematic mapping of countries and/or companies for potential IFC engagement in major transport sub-sectors; - Help prepare strategy papers for sub-sectors;- Research/expand/update benchmarking database for major transport sub-sectors in emerging markets;- Act as point of contact for benchmarking data to regional investment teams and other stakeholders in the World Bank Group; - Utilize IFC internal systems to generate pipeline, portfolio and climate change reports; and- Work on development and update of lessons learned database, and knowledge management materials.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

- Bachelor's or equivalent degree with specialization in economics, finance, business or transport; Masters is a plus;- Sector experience in the transport sector is a plus;- Experience in a research-oriented role (2+ years) with a proven track record of publishing reports and analysis would be a plus, ideally in the transport sector;- Experience writing high level briefs on sector trends and 'deep dive' reports; - Strong analytical and problem solving skills including financial modeling, financial statement analysis and valuation preferred;- Able to work well in multicultural teams and across boundaries;- Demonstrated teamwork skills;- Strong client service orientation with an openness to feedback and new ideas;- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint; - Excellent presentation and writing skills;- Fluent in English; other languages a plus.As a representative of the World Bank Group, all professional activities are expected to be consistent with our Core Values: personal honesty, integrity, commitment, working together in teams with openness and trust; empowering others and respecting differences; encouraging risk-taking and responsibility; enjoying our work and our families.Applications should be sent in English.
