Summary:

The Research Department is a respected contributor to long-term strategic thinking on issues related to monetary policy, the national economy, and the region. Research Analysts form a self-directed work team whose mission is to provide high-quality assistance for departmental research and publications. Research Analysts also help prepare presentations for the Bank's Board of Directors, the Bank's president (before meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee), research economists, and other external customers.

Within the self-managed work team, Research Analysts specialize in unique segments of the economy and then work individually toward developing knowledge and skill in their specialty subject. Research Analysts are expected to take an active role in departmental research projects with several research economists, according to their skills, subject expertise, and interests. Within a two to three year time frame, Research Analysts gain exposure to a variety of economic research topics and often co-author papers with research economists for Bank and external academic publications. These experiences make Research Analyst positions ideal for someone considering a Ph.D. in economics.

Responsibilities:

Research Analysts support the Bank's research by collecting and analyzing data using statistical packages and programming languages such as Excel, SAS, Stata, Fortran, C, Matlab, EViews, RATS, and SQL. Identify and analyze trends in the form of reports, tables, and graphs. Assist in the preparation of departmental presentations and publications for internal and external customers. Write articles, memos, and briefings for internal Bank use.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree with emphasis in economics or a closely related field, such as computer science, statistics, or mathematics; knowledge of monetary policy and macroeconomics strongly preferred.

• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Proficiency in conducting research and experience programming and managing data sets preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• A 5-7 page writing sample related to finance or economics is required in addition to resume.
