Reporting to the Access to Justice Lab Faculty Director and the Research Director, the Research Associate – Field works with both to produce and advise on evidence-generating field operations, to create instructional materials, and to work on all aspects of the Access to Justice Lab's operations. The ideal candidate will possess most of the skills and qualifications listed below. The Research Associate-Field position is particularly appropriate for an individual who anticipates, after 3-6 years, entering the academic or other market as a researcher with an agenda that includes field operations (especially RCTs) in the legal arena. Responsibilities of the position include:
• Design, develop, and manage Access to Justice Lab research projects;
• Negotiate with field partners;
• Review and code complex legal materials, including case files;
• Conduct reviews of legal and social science literature;
• Conduct data analysis including permutation testing, multi-level modeling, and fitting using Bayesian techniques; Draft all documents attendant to a field RCT, including IRB clearance requests, consent materials, advanced registration materials, and research protocols;
• Assure compliance with applicable confidentiality and data security requirements;
• Draft reports and papers publishable in top journals;
• Present results at meetings and/or conferences;
• Write summaries of ongoing and previous RCTs,
• Write grant applications;
• Train and consult on non-Lab field operations and RCTs;
• Create instructional materials to train those hoping to learn how to run their own field operations; and
• Provide substantive content for Access to Justice Lab blog, website, and other written materials.
Basic Qualifications
JD and Master's Degree (or Master's-level training), with the latter including strong training in quantitative methods, strongly preferred.
Prior research experience, particularly in field operations strongly preferred. Candidates with significant experience may be considered for a grade 58 appointment.
Additional Qualifications
RCT experience strongly preferred.
Exceptional writing, research, and analytics skills.
Knowledge of R (or comparable statistical environment) strongly preferred.
Strong technical and technology skills.
Team mindset, and project management skills.
Strong presence and communication abilities.
Litigation/courtroom experience strongly preferred
Additional Information
This is a term appointment currently expected to extend to June 30, 2019, subject to funding and departmental need.
