The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) is seeking a well-qualified individual for our Research Associate in the Office of the Chief Economist opening in Washington, DC. Job Summary:

To assist the staff of the Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) in conducting research and analysis in support of policy making. This is an entry-level professional position in which the incumbent will apply basic research and data management techniques to support the work of the OCE.

Education/Experience Requirements:

Conducts intensive and focused research at the direction of the OCE senior staff.
Develops a basic understanding of the investigative techniques and performs first level information gathering and collation that is presented to senior OCE staff for fine-grained analysis.
Collects data from a variety of public sources, including the web and services such as Bloomberg, and identifies sources for existing research and analysis relevant to OCE projects.
Collects data from internal sources, such as OATS, TRACE, and other data collections.
Organizes and standardizes data using tools such as Excel, SAS or R.
Collects and reviews public information, including press stories, speeches, and research reports and presents investigative findings (orally and in writing) in an organized, concise and timely fashion.
Develops and executes analysis of data to answer specific questions and provides written work product that describes the question, methods, data and findings.

Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, statistics or a similar field. Advanced degree (or substantial progress in completing a degree) is preferred.
Ability to produce statistical analysis, data collection and manipulation, programming, and written reports.
Proficiency in the use of databases, Microsoft Office products, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
Strong work ethic, positive attitude and professional demeanor.
Effective communication, time management, and organizational skills.
Ability to work with others to meet deadlines.
Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.

Working Conditions:

Work is normally performed in an office environment.
