ABA is currently seeking a Senior Economist to work with our Office of Chief Economists/Economic & Policy Research department. Incumbent shall act as an advisor to the Chief Economist in developing policy positions, arguments to support them, and research and analyses necessary to support ABA's position or refute positions in opposition. Responsible for anticipating events, conditions and policy concerns likely to affect the industry and analyzing these emerging issues and suggesting a course of action for ABA research on them. This involves working closely with the communications staff, alerting them to these issues of concern and helping articulate ABA's position on them. The incumbent will write economic columns for various ABA publications and will give economic presentations to banker groups.

This is a position requires a highly trained and experienced economist to lead new issues, including super priorities set by the Government Relations Committee (GRC) and the ABA board. This position requires mapping out a strategy to address policy issues, leading/co-leading staff working groups, advising bankers involved in these issues (either through presentations to the GRC and other banking groups or those bankers involved in special task forces on the subject), and writing reports, lobbying pieces, and articles on the subject. Will articulate and formulate the banking industry's position is an important element of this position.

This position has high visibility with bankers (including key ABA policy committees) and the general public, involving presentations to both large and small groups on a variety of subjects.

Requirements

Ph.D. in economics, finance or a related field and a minimum of five (5) years of related banking or bank policy experience required (or equivalent combination of related training and experience). Knowledge of banking and finance required to include managerial experience essential. Ability to take on new issues quickly and bring the analytical expertise and economics training to bear on the subject in support of the banking industry's position.
