Senior Economist

Summary

Bank of the West is seeking an exceptional Economist to join the team. This new exciting opportunity will work with Scott Anderson, Chief Economist for Bank of the West, Scott was recently named one of the top economic forecasters in the country, by Bloomberg and MarketWatch. We are looking for someone who will work with Scott to support and perform analysis and research, assisting in the preparation of publications and presentations, preparing reports and assisting with other economic research projects as needed. Identifies and describes key economic trends impacting the Bank in all areas in which the Bank operates, and implications for future economic growth, economic policies, markets, and interest rates. This person must have good writing skills and a passion to write.

Essential Job Functions

1. Compiles, analyzes, and reports data that helps to explain and forecast economic and financial trends. Provides data for forecasting market trends by applying mathematical models and statistical techniques.
2. Collaborates in the development and validation of economic equations for use in forecasting models and/or bank stress testing. Formulates economic models to help identify issues affecting the Bank.
3. Participates in the Bank's economic forecasting cycle. Reviews data for forecasting market trends by applying mathematical models and statistical techniques. Informs Chief Economist.
4. Prepares spreadsheets, create charts and graphs, and perform economic research for use in the preparation of reports discussing economic forecasts and their impact on the Bank.
5. Prepares written first draft of the quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily economics publications.
6. Monitors economic developments in the financial and/or banking industry and analyzes impact on the company's business.
7. Develop knowledge in regional economies and assist in forecasting regional economic activity and help produce regional economic reports.
8. Partners with various business groups (i.e. internal business intelligence and data analytic teams within the team and across the groups) to collaborate on projects.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree – Required; (Master or Ph.D. in Economics) is preferred.
2. Requires deep knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. Typically viewed as a specialist within discipline. May have broad knowledge of project management.
3. Requires 7 years minimum prior relevant experience.
4. Requires advanced knowledge of global, US and regional economics.
5. Knowledge and ability to apply complex economic theory and quantitative econometric techniques.
6. Significant knowledge of Familiarity with economic databases & econometric software (i.e. Eviews).
7. Strong knowledge of Banking or Financial services a plus.
8. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
9. Strong math, statistical, modeling skills a must.
10. Excellent research and presentation skills a must.

11. Strong Verbal and written communication skills.

12. Strong knowledge of internal business intelligence and data analytic teams within the team and across the groups.
