University College London Economics logo

University College London
London - United Kingdom
S: £37,524 per annum

Duties and Responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to carry out teaching for two core economics modules (ECON1604 and ECON2601), taken by first- and second-year students, respectively, from the Departments of Mathematics and Statistical Science pursuing BSc joint honours degrees. Since both economics modules are for students with quantitative backgrounds, emphasis is placed on developing mathematical methods and providing intuition for the results.

Each module has about 120-150 students with fortnightly tutorials in smaller groups run by Teaching Assistants. Further details, including outline syllabuses, of the two courses are available from the student handbook. Existing course materials will be made available.

The post is available from 1 June 2016 until 30 June 2017 whilst the regular lecturers are on sabbatical leave.

Key Requirements
Candidates should hold or be close to submitting a PhD (or equivalent qualification) in Economics, or a closely related field. It is essential that the successful candidate has the ability to teach large-group undergraduate courses in economics using a mathematical/quantitative approach appropriate for joint honours degree candidates with strong mathematical backgrounds. Experience of UK university teaching and administration is highly desirable
