Analyst - Economist (Modelling)

RAND Europe has offices in Brussels and Cambridge, and employs approximately 80 researchers: just over half of our research staff have doctorates with the balance holding other post-graduate degrees. Our work lies on the continuum between that of universities and consultancies, combining the academic rigour of universities and the professional, task orientated approach of consultancies.

The Home Affairs and Social Policy Research Group undertakes contract research and analysis in a range of public policy areas, including crime and justice, employment, well-being at work, migration, education and other socio-economic topics. We have an extensive portfolio of work with the EU, national governments, charitable foundations and others. It is a very exciting time to join us as we are expanding our fast growing economic modelling team.

We wish to recruit an exceptional candidate to join the team. You will address complex policy questions by conducting research and analysis on behalf of clients in the fields of employment, health, international trade, and national security, among others, and support the research group in submitting proposals and delivering multiple projects.

You will apply sophisticated economic modelling tools such as computational general equilibrium modelling and/or econometrics to help to improve public policy and decision-making.


The ideal candidate will have:

• A Master's Degree (or higher) in economics or econometrics. A PhD is desirable.

• Excellent knowledge of economic theory and policy (micro- and macroeconomics).

• Significant quantitative modelling experience in the areas of general equilibrium modelling (e.g. CGE or DSGE modelling), econometrics or statistics.

• Good programming skills (e.g. GAMS, Stata, R, MatLab, Python) and experience in data analysis and visualisation.

• Experience in independently leading small to medium-scale analytical projects.

• Relevant experience in similar role, including the ability to deliver within agreed timelines.

• Report writing skills.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Excellent Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills.


Key responsibilities will include:

• Manages small projects, with some supervision, including monitoring budget, timetable and deliverables

• Drafting of reports with minimal supervision

• Maintains day-to-day contact with clients

• Contributes to impact by identifying opportunities for communication of research findings

• Leads small to medium size proposals

• Analyses calls for tender to identify proposal requirements

• Supports business development activities

• Supports strategic corporate initiatives


It is essential that the candidate already has the right to work in the UK. Fluency in English is also essential and proficiency in other EU languages would be useful.
