Assistant Vice President - Economic Research and Analysis

NYCEDC is looking for an Assistant Vice President to join its Economic Research & Analysis team. The AVP will carry out economic analysis, conduct comprehensive research, and produce reports to complement the work of other NYCEDC departments and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development. The AVP will also take the lead in overseeing publications, podcasts, blogs and other editorial content including scheduling and traffic flow of report on industries and neighborhoods in New York City as well as providing direction to project managers and interns to assist in carrying out these responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Research, write and edit reports on industries and neighborhoods in New York City.
• Evaluate the economic and fiscal impact of development projects and events that draw visitors to the City
• Manage publications schedule.
• Conduct in-depth industry research
• Research and analyze developments in the City's economy
• Oversee and organize events
• Provide robust, accurate information in a timely manner to response to inquiries from senior management, City officials, and (in coordination with Public Affairs), the press and media.
• Analyze policy proposals related to the City's infrastructure investments and taxation of businesses to enable decision-makers to choose strategies that maximize economic and fiscal returns to the City
• Use big data techniques to analyze data
• Help build out the website of the NYCEDC Economic Research and Analysis group.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree or equivalent in the Economics or Public Policy field
• 3 years of relevant work experience
• Knowledge of statistics, business, finance and economics
• MS Office, Internet, Stata
• Excellent written communication and editing skills as evidenced by previous experience
• Ability to accurately transcribe and process quantitative information
• Ability to provide clear written and oral explanations of quantitative information and concepts
• Strong spreadsheet and computer skills
• Detail-oriented in analyzing and providing quantitative information as well as in producing professional, written documents

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong spreadsheet skills; knowledge of statistical software, such as EViews, Mathematica and R; detail-oriented in analyzing and providing quantitative information; familiarity with sources of data on employment, wages, and other economic indicators; demonstrated interest in applied microeconomics issue; knowledge of big data techniques and software; understanding of computer algorithms; experience with computer languages such as SQL, PHP, Java and/or Objective C

About Economic Research and Analysis:

The Department is responsible for analyzing the economic and fiscal impact of major influences on the City's economy to complement the work of other NYCEDC departments, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, and the Mayor's Office. Topics range from significant events such as national political conventions to private development projects to City infrastructure investments and economic policy decisions. The department also publishes monthly reports on economic conditions.
