Description

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has an opening for Economist/Resident Trainer at the Africa Training Institute (ATI) located in Mauritius. The mission of the ATI is to strengthen the skills of officials from sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries in economic analysis, diagnosis, and policy formulation, through the delivery of training courses and seminars. This is a full-time position with an initial appointment term of two years (renewable) and a competitive salary and benefits package.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate would be in charge of teaching a variety of macroeconomic policy and finance courses at the ATI, be involved in curriculum development, and conduct research in support of the ATI's training activities, seminars and conferences as follows:

· Teaching. Will teach several macroeconomic policy courses in conjunction with IMF staff. The audience will include public sector officials from sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries, especially officials from central banks, finance ministries and other government economic agencies.
· Course development. Will be actively involved in the development of course materials (and occasionally new courses) on topics of relevance to the region, in collaboration with IMF headquarters. Course development will include the preparation of pedagogical material such as lectures and detailed quantitative case studies based on country experiences.
· Research in support of ATI training (time permitting). Will be expected to conduct original research on economic issues of relevance to the ATI's training mission and to cooperate with universities, research institutes, and think tanks in the region.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a PhD or a Master's degree in economics or finance and a demonstrated capacity to conduct high-quality research. Candidates should have strong analytical skills in macroeconomics or finance, and at least four years of practical experience with analyzing economic issues and providing policy advice. Experience in providing advanced training to public sector officials in applied macroeconomic policy issues, finance and/or econometrics is highly desirable. Good interpersonal skills are essential. Excellent teaching and communication skills in English are crucial. Fluency in French is highly desirable and Portuguese would be an additional plus.
