The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia is seeking to fill an Economist position in its Philadelphia office. This Economist position specializes in research on financial institutions or financial contracting. The Economist position assists senior staff members on topics concerning monetary policy, bank and financial regulation, financial markets, and the behavior of the national and regional projects in fields of monetary policy, financial intermediation, banking and urban/regional economics to be used for briefing senior management or for publication in professional journals. Conducts independent and highly technical research and publishes such research in professional journals and department's Working Paper (WP) series, working with some degree of independence and some assistance in area of expertise. Contributes toward the Bank's public education objective by writing for the Business Review, giving speeches and talks to outside audiences, and contributing to System research projects. May assist research officers in administration and supervision of special projects/briefings involving other economists or research assistants under the direction of the section officer. May supervise one or a few research assistants.

This position reports to a Vice President in the Research Department.
Required Skills and/or Qualifications:

Ph.D. in economics, finance or related discipline. Applicants at all levels of experience will be considered, and both theoretical and empirical economists are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with relevant economic institutions and available data sources--typically acquired by gaining on-the-job experience within the Research Department or by acquiring related work experience in other research or academic positions.

Must have demonstrated competence in knowledge and application of advanced theoretical and quantitative techniques in economics or finance; have developed expertise and the ability to provide in-depth analysis or complex economic issues using advanced theoretical and qantitative techniques. Must have completed working papers or publications in the field of research on financial institutions or financial contracting.

Hours: Monday through Friday - 40 hours/week. 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Salary Range: $94,598.00/year or higher, commensurate with experience
