Description
The Research Department of the IMF is looking for an Economist to join its Research Department.
The candidate will be assigned to work on the projection team of the Economic Modeling Division. The assignment will involve weekly monitoring and regular reporting on global economic and financial developments, contributing to the development of the Global Projection Model (GPM), preparing the quarterly global projection, and applying GPM and other analytical tools to various global policy questions with a view to informing the World Economic Outlook.
Qualifications
All economist positions require a graduate-level degree (preferably at the Ph.D. level) in macroeconomics, financial economics, or in related fields, such as monetary economics, public finance, banking and financial sector. Candidates should have an interest in, and aptitude for, working in an international organization.
The position also requires:
Thorough knowledge and considerable experience in the application of economics and quantitative techniques, and familiarity with the IMF's practices and policies;
Strong analytical ability for identifying policy implications of research work, carrying out analysis and drafting of research papers;
Ability to exercise independent judgment, to draft well and quickly, to function with limited supervision, and to supervise and review the work of research assistants.
In addition, the selected candidate must have strong analytical skills, excellent communications and interpersonal skills, and be willing to mentor junior staff. Experience with macroeconomic models, conducting global projections, risk scenarios, analyzing emerging markets economies and monitoring high-frequency indicators would be highly desirable. Familiarity with MATLAB, DYNARE, and IRIS toolbox would also be an asset.
