Vivid Economics is seeking to recruit two Engagement Managers to manage existing projects and to contribute to the development of its new Earth Observation practice.

The role of Engagement Manager is a senior role with management and client development responsibilities, alongside a responsibility for excellent economic analysis and project delivery.

Description of the role
The interface between Earth Observation or remote sensing data and economics is a new and exciting field and is becoming an important part of Vivid Economics' business. We are now looking for two people to manage projects in this Practice and support the Practice lead in developing new business. The role will also include management of projects in other areas of the firm.

Candidates will have a professional background in quantitative economics, including the analysis of large, spatially disaggregated data. Experience using spatial mapping tools integrating satellite data is an advantage. Candidates will have a postgraduate degree, together with professional fluency in English, with French and/or Spanish representing a strong advantage.

The main duties of an Engagement Manager will be advanced economic analysis and communication of recommendations, project and staff management, and the development of new thematic areas and key clients. A successful candidate is able to analyse new and complex economic problems, design and apply advanced methods, and manage the team to produce high quality end products.

The candidate will have most or all of the following capabilities. She or he will:
– be effective in planning their and other people's work;
– be skilled in interpreting complex, multi-layered information;
– feel comfortable managing and guiding staff in advanced spatial data handling and econometrics;
– be able to master project content and manage projects detail to a very high quality standard;
– be able to communicate clearly and present their project work confidently;
– be able to manage their own time and their teams' time across up to three projects simultaneously;
– have an open manner when working in teams;
– be thorough and creative in solving analytical problems.

The position is based in London, with an expectation of up to two weeks travel per Quarter to Africa, Latin America and other destinations.

Primary day-to-day duties of an Engagement Manager
– maintaining and developing relationships with existing clients; as well as a broader
professional network;
– structuring and applying economic frameworks to analytical problems;
– developing client solutions, addressing client input, and designing materials that
effectively communicate recommendations;
– developing and seeing through plans; forecasting resources; preparing budgets;
– supporting the development of junior staff through regular feedback and mentorship;
– keeping up to date with knowledge by participating in educational opportunities;
reading professional publications; participating in professional organisations;
– participating in company improvements; potentially leading on internal change
initiatives.

Reporting and supervisory relationships
An Engagement Manager is often the primary lead on a project. As a result an Engagement
Manager will supervise up to five people. Engagement Managers have line management
and mentoring responsibilities.
An Engagement Manager will report to either a Director or Principal. Oversight can be limited
and an Engagement Manager is expected to take substantial responsibility for delivery of
high quality outputs.

Experience and qualifications
Candidates must have sufficient experience to demonstrate competency in the duties
described. As a guide, six or more years of experience are required for an Engagement
manager, with two to four years related to economic analysis. Previous consultancy
experience is not necessary but is strongly preferred.
A first class or upper second class degree in economics or a closely related field and an
MSc/MA or Ph.D. in a relevant field is required. Fluency in English and French and/or
Spanish is required.

Compensation range:
– salary of £60,000 - £75,000
– plus annual bonus and pension contribution matching
– plus employee share ownership scheme
– plus 43 days of paid holiday, including eight UK bank holidays
