Vivid Economics
Farringdon - United Kingdom
S: £45,000 - £75,000

Vivid Economics is seeking an Engagement Manager or Senior Economist with expertise and experience in investment and finance, especially in the energy, infrastructure and natural resource sectors.
The roles of Engagement Manager and Senior Economist bear responsibility for thought leadership, excellent economic and strategic analysis, project delivery and client engagement. The Engagement Manager is a more senior role with additional responsibilities for management of multiple teams and pro-active business development. Very senior, Principal-level candidates may be considered in exceptional cases.

A successful applicant will be able to analyse new and complex economic problems, design and apply advanced methods, and produce high quality end products. S/he will be expected to manage staff and project delivery to time and budget. At the Engagement manager level, s/he will be expected to manage multiple projects, lead the development of junior staff, demonstrate thought leadership, and develop business with key clients.
The candidate will have experience working in or with the financial sector developing investment strategies, assessing investment pipelines or portfolios, and structuring financing arrangements. A breadth of experience, and the ability to cover multiple topics would be valuable, although candidates may have a depth of experience in only a couple of areas. Experience might include asset allocation and asset pricing strategies, market and financial due diligence, project and corporate finance, risk modelling, and investor-oriented macroeconomic analysis. Experience in the energy, infrastructure and natural resource sectors would be a bonus, including experience incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into investment and financing decisions. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in applying econometric techniques.
The geographic focus includes Europe, and a number of countries in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Some international travel is expected, but should not be extensive unless desired.
Primary day-to-day duties
– structuring and applying economic frameworks to analytical problems;
– developing client solutions, addressing client input, and designing materials that effectively communicate recommendations;
– keeping updated with knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organisations;
– maintaining and developing relationships with existing clients, as well as a broader professional network;
– developing and seeing through plans, forecasting resources, preparing budgets;
– supporting the development of junior staff through regular feedback and mentorship; and
– participating in company improvements; potentially leading on internal change initiatives.

Reporting and supervisory relationships
An Engagement Manager is often the primary lead on a project. As a result an Engagement Manager will supervise up to five people. A Senior Economist will lead key streams of work in a larger project, or take primary lead on a smaller project, supervising up to three people.
An Engagement Manager will report to either a Director or Principal. Oversight can be limited and an Engagement Manager is expected to take substantial responsibility for delivery of high quality deliverables. A Senior Economist will either report to an Engagement Manager, or in some cases directly to a Director or Principal.
Experience and qualifications
Candidates must have sufficient experience to demonstrate competency in the duties described. As a guide, six or more years of experience tends to be required for an Engagement Manager, and four or more years for a Senior Economist, with two to four years related to economic analysis. Previous consultancy experience is not necessary but is strongly preferred.
A first class or upper second class degree in economics or a closely related field is required. An MSc/MA or Ph.D. in a relevant field is preferred. Fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of other languages is an advantage, particularly Spanish or French.
