Department for International Trade
London - United Kingdom
S: £49,703 - £57,789

About us
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the international economic department responsible for bringing together policy, promotion and financial expertise to break down barriers to trade and investment. Critically, we will deliver a new trade policy framework for the UK as it leaves the European Union.

About the role
Enabling the delivery of multi-million pound export support, you will take the lead in strengthening economic appraisal analysis. Your goal will be to nurture growth in UK exports and help UK businesses on their journey to internationalise.

Working as part of multi-disciplinary team that's setting the direction of Export Strategy, you will help to develop the evidence base and influence the shape of the department's Export Promotion.

Specifically, you will:
• steer business case development and fiscal event preparation;
• build effective working relationships with key stakeholders to make the case for appraisal and evaluation;
• promote the use of value-for-money analysis to inform service delivery and resource allocation decisions;
• scope out work programmes, manage internal and external projects and build links with academia;
• manage an assistant economist and an operational researcher;
• work in an environment where teamwork is encouraged and done well, where your position in your team is valued, and where continuous learning and development are encouraged and supported.

About you
We are looking for an exceptional economist with a strong grasp of appraisal and fiscal analysis. We would love to hear from you if you:
• have worked in roles where you have been involved in design, development, specification, commissioning, delivery or quality assurance of appraisal analysis and econometric projects;
• are highly motivated with the enthusiasm to get things done ̶ working flexibly, collaboratively and creatively with others to deliver results;
• have the ability to build strong and effective working relationships with your colleagues and stakeholders;
• have excellent communication and influencing skills that will enable you to work effectively with senior people internally and across Whitehall;
• are ready to travel internationally.
