Managing Director, Economic Policy and Governance

Nathan Associates Inc., an economic development consulting firm based in Arlington, VA, is seeking a managing director (MD) for the Economic Policy and Governance Unit of the International Development Economics (IDE) practice.

The MD will primarily be responsible for identifying and pursuing business opportunities with donor organizations, governments, and the private sector, drawing on the firm's reputation in applied economics, economic development, and public financial management and leveraging expertise in other practice areas such as trade facilitation and private sector development.

The MD will be report to the IDE Vice President and be part of the senior leadership team that includes MDs in four other technical areas. He/she will be supported by and be responsible for leading junior economists and administrative support staff and will oversee a portfolio of long-term projects that provide technical assistance in PFM, economic policy reform, and analysis to developing countries. Among these projects is the recently awarded USAID Leadership in Public Financial Management II project, a Washington-based global program that provides thought leadership, training, and technical assistance to USAID's E3 Bureau and bilateral missions, in particular Kenya. Other long-term projects provide direct technical support in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
• An advanced degree in economics with training in international economics, development, public finance, or financial economics
• A minimum of 10 years of experience working on projects and activities funded by donor agencies (e.g., USAID, World Bank, IMF, ADB)
• Demonstrated experience in business development, proposal management, and substantive proposal writing
• Short-term consulting experience in developing countries (required)
• Experience in two or more of the following areas: macroeconomics, microeconomics, fiscal policy/tax administration, banking/finance, or governance.
• Excellent management and mentoring skills
• Foreign language skills preferred.
