The Commerce Commission is New Zealand's competition, consumer and regulatory agency. Our mission is to make New Zealanders better off by ensuring our markets work well and consumers and businesses are confident participants in those markets.

Our Market Studies team is responsible for analysing particular markets or parts of markets that may appear not to be working well. After studying the market we will recommend solutions to address any competition issues identified, in order to deliver positive outcomes for businesses and New Zealanders.

This team have significant experience with competition and consumer matters. They identify and scope issues, conduct an investigative process, gather and analyse relevant information and prepare reports. The other key aspect of this team's role is to engage with and manage stakeholder expectations.

We currently have an opportunity for a Project Manager to join this team ideally on a permanent basis (but we would consider a fixed-term arrangement or secondment), in the Wellington office.

The role

Reporting to the Market Studies Manager you will have responsibility for the project management of Market Studies.

As a seasoned Project Manager and technical expert you will also be responsible for the ongoing development and quality of the Market Studies team, providing technical input, guidance and quality control of the delivery of market studies' including; information gathering, analysis and recommendations.

Working closely with the Market Studies Manager and Principal Adviser you will provide leadership to the market studies team and further develop processes, frameworks and policies that enable meaningful studies to be completed that result in appropriate outcomes, while also managing stakeholder expectations.

Using your strong relationship management and leadership qualities you will be able to make a real difference for the long term benefit of New Zealanders.

Along with an economic, legal or analytical qualification, ideally you will have:

• excellent project and people management skills
• significant knowledge in competition or regulation matters
• expert knowledge and experience with market studies, antitrust/competition economics.
