Natural Resource Economist

Responsibilities:
Seeking a Natural Resource Economist to conduct research on the non-market and/or market value of natural resources in marine and coastal environments. The successful candidate will become a member of an interdisciplinary research team supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment (CCMA), Biogeography Branch. The Biogeography Branch is a nationally recognized scientific program that conducts research, monitoring, mapping, modelling and assessment of marine ecosystems. The branch conducts analysis, provides data and creates tools and other products in support of natural resource managers and marine policy.

Responsibilities
Modelling of non-market values for ecosystem services to predict the impact of ecosystem change on valuation
Conducting economic trade-off analysis to evaluate alternative management or policy options using non-market and/or market data
Conducting recreational demand modeling related to marine/coastal ecosystems to assess the value of natural resources
Drafting reports and scientific papers summarizing research findings
Providing subject matter expertise to colleagues, clients and research partners
Participation in the development of research projects and funding proposals

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Natural Resource Economics or related discipline
Demonstrated experience conducting pertinent economic analyses independently for at least 3 years
Strong methodological and statistical background
Expertise with relevant statistical software packages (e.g., STATA, SAS, MATLAB or GAUSS)
Experience procuring, evaluating and analyzing economic data from large secondary datasets
Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing
Experience working effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary research team
Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
Non-U.S. citizens must possess current documentation authorizing employment in the United States

Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in Natural Resource Economics or related discipline
Experience with revealed and stated preference methods for non-market valuation
Experience with sampling and survey design, development and implementation for non-market valuation studies
Experience conducting market-based economic analyses
Experience using ArcGIS to conduct economic analyses or spatially display economic data
