Post Doctoral Research Assistant in Behavioural Economics

University of Reading Economics logo

University of Reading
Reading - United Kingdom
S: £28,695 to £32,277

A post-doctoral researcher is required for a behavioural economics project addressing the question "How individual is individual choice?" Economics uses an individualistic model of decision making, which is influential across the social sciences and policy community. However, problems with this approach have led to the suggestion that people 'team reason': they sometimes think and act collectively, even if making decisions independently. The project explores the team reasoning hypothesis, and the influence of individualistic framing in policy research, experimentally. It will also inform the interpretation of environmental valuation data.

The post holder will implement experiments, including computerised trials, surveys and interviews, and be responsible for data management. They will be involved in the research design, data analysis and writing up, working with a multi-disciplinary team.

You will have:

- A PhD in economics or social psychology, comprising experimental research
- Excellent organisational and logistical skills
- Excellent IT skills including programming
- A critical appreciation of the received economic theory of decision making

Start date: 1 May 2015
Post type: Fixed Term Contract: 18 months
Hours: 35
