About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor – Partner Risk and Economic Policy to provide analytical and strategic support to the global business through rigorous analysis of political, economic and trade issues and their potential impact on Rio Tinto, as well as supporting the development and implementation of risk and other systems to represent and protect Rio Tinto's interests.

This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is excited by complex geo-political environments, and who relishes taking responsibility for planning and execution of key programmes of work in alignment with business priorities.

Reporting to the Chief Advisor, Partner Risk and Economic Policy, you will be:

•Leading political economy and regulatory analysis on global and regional issues that could impact Rio Tinto and it businesses.
•Developing and implementing policies and programs to ensure Rio Tinto's interests are represented and protected in political economy settings.
•Managing and coordinating governance processes and tools for the Corporate Relations function.
•Supporting the development and implementation of political economy risk management processes and tools, including country risk analysis.
•Assisting in the creating and coordinating of an internal External Affairs risk "practice" to promote best practice and to ensure the Rio Tinto External Affairs network remains fully informed of global developments, potential impacts and risks which could impact on shareholder value and reputation.
•Quickly diagnosing and responding accordingly to the needs of the business, to deliver targeted, issues-driven stakeholder engagement as required.


About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

•Master's degree in Economics, Trade, Political Science, Law, Business or other relevant field.
•At least 7 years of relevant work experience in economic research, trade, risk and/or industry analysis.
•Analytical and research focus with experience in project management.
•Comfortable processing quantitative information and managing spread sheets.
•Demonstrated interpersonal and collaborative behaviours, including a high level of discretion and diplomacy and the ability to manage conflict and gain consensus at all levels.
•Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to produce high-quality output within tight deadlines.
•Experience in the resources sector and/or corporate relations would be well regarded.
•Bilingual English and French is preferred.
