Job Description
PhD in Economics or related field, expertise in experimental design, sampling, survival and duration modeling, analyzing large experimental and observational data sets. The person filling the position will be a thought leader in the development and transmission of data modeling methods within Amazon. The ideal candidate will have deep understanding of computational methods, computer implementation of statistical methods, identification of and solution of new and difficult data modeling problems. Expected expertise includes at least one of the major statistical programs (STATA, SAS, SPSS), one of the lower level languages having statistical packages (R, MatLab) as well as some familiarity with C++, or JAVA. Hadoop, PIG or Hive experience useful but not required. The individual chosen will also interact with Amazon's Machine Learning community and should have an international reputation in econometrics as evidenced by publications in top tier journals, tenure at a major research university and reputation among faculty at top tier research universities.

Basic Qualifications
PhD in Economics or Statistics
Expertise in linear and non-linear data modeling, sampling, survival and duration modeling, analyzing large experimental and observational data sets.
Excellent communication and mentoring skills
Demonstrated experience successfully working in teams.

Preferred Qualifications
10-20 years experience as a professional econometrician and applied theorist
