Applications are invited for a Professor, Associate Professor or Lecturer in Economics.

Saitama University, a national university in Japan, is seeking applicants to fill a full-time position in the field of economics, especially foreign trade in Japan/Asia, at professor, associate professor or lecturer level in the Faculty of Economics and the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Saitama University is now extensively enhancing the functions of research and teaching for human resource development by receiving government funding, including the creation of various curriculums for developing global leaders. As a part of this strategy, the Faculty of Economics and the newly establishing Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences are intensifying education to develop people, who can work worldwide on the basis of their knowledge of social sciences.

The successful candidate will be committed to teaching courses in English and supervising theses both on the undergraduate and the graduate levels. The courses to teach are: Introduction to Economics, International Economic Theory and Foreign Trade in Japan/Asia. A willingness to contribute to ongoing and future research projects on economics and foreign trade in Japan/Asia is also desired.

Qualifications
Desirable qualities for appointment include: a PhD or equivalent in the fields of economics or related subjects; native-level fluency in spoken and written English; and willingness to relocate and live in the Saitama/Tokyo area. Ability to communicate in Japanese is not necessary for the first contracted period. If the successful candidate wishes to extend the contract, some level of Japanese language is necessary.

Duration of contract
This post's contract will start on 1 April 2015 or 1 October 2015 and end on 31 March 2019. The contract can be renewed up to compulsory retirement (age 65) on the basis of achievement.
