The position is located within a small, fast moving environment located within the Office of the Chief Economist. The position requires the Economist to produce original real estate, mortgage, and insurance or housing finance research. This would include coming up or incubating ideas, collecting internal or external data, and summarizing the analysis. The research may also include macroeconomic analysis that may affect the industry and/or business groups of the organization. The research techniques require statistical analysis, econometric modeling, and literature reviews. The research will be disseminated via publications, blog posts, presentations, or white papers or to senior management.

Job Duties

Conduct economic statistical analyses and complete research studies of real estate, mortgage and insurance related data.
Prepare statistical programs, models, documentation, written analysis which is disseminated to senior management and the public via publications, blogs, presentations and white papers.
Be able to proactively research quantitative and qualitative ideas both independently and as a part of research group.
Assist other economists in completing group research objectives, monthly analyses, and improve or enhance data, research and models.
Assess and communicate research results to internal and external stakeholders.
Fulfill ad-hoc requests for data and analytical reporting to support business units throughout the organization.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or related field strongly preferred; Master's degree is ideal
Six to 8 years of related experience (i.e. economist)
Mortgage or Housing industry experience is required
Detail oriented
Able to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously
Communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing
Proficient PC skills
Presentation skills
Understanding of relational database principles and experience developing SQL scripts a plus
SAS proficiency required
