Position Description

Macro Strategies has opening for a sovereign analyst. This is a new position, reporting to the Director of Macro Strategies.

Macro Strategies provides a research and data driven assessment of global macro conditions, opportunities, and risks. Our sovereign research provides forward-looking evaluations of over 80 countries and generates investment strategies suitable for a broad spectrum of products. The sovereign analyst will provide advanced analytical support to a group of senior analysts.

Role:
Provide support to the Senior Global Economist and the two senior sovereign analysts focused on Latin America and Africa.

Responsibilities
Conduct, with senior analyst supervision, fundamental analysis of countries in developed and emerging markets, including the likely path of monetary and fiscal policies and related macro trends.

Gather data and information required for sovereign analysis, including listening to conference calls and meeting with issuers and data providers.

Assist in the relative value assessment of currencies, bonds, and equities. Identify the key drivers and monitor the relevant data. Assist in generating investment ideas suitable for a wide range of products.

Enhance existing and build new tools and models. Partner with QRRA on more advanced needs.

Prepare reports and presentations to help the analysts communicate views. Provide written commentary for client reporting.

There is the potential to independently follow credits over time, in addition to above responsibilities.

Qualifications

Skills and Attributes Needed:
- An analytical mind set – ability to dig deep, source information, identify patterns and apply insights
- Demonstrated knowledge of and curiosity about economics, politics, and markets
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Proficiency with Excel and econometrics; experience with Haver, Datastream or Eviews a plus.
- Foreign language: Spanish required

Required Experience and Education:
- 1-2 years of sovereign research experience (both fundamental and quantitative techniques)
- Minimum of 5 years experience overall in the investment industry
- Bachelor's degree in economics or finance, with work toward graduate degree
