Research Analyst

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), is an international non-profit research organization. Based in New Haven, CT, with offices in Washington, D.C. and worldwide, IPA works with development partners and academic researchers to create and evaluate approaches to solving development problems, to communicate "what works" in development and to scale up successful projects in a variety of fields, including health, education, microfinance, governance and agriculture.

Position Summary:

IPA seeks a Research Anaylst (RA) to be based in the US in support of a Research Affiliate based at Princeton University. The RA will provide direct research support to the affiliate's research projects at the intersection of development economics, behavioral economics, and neurobiology. The support will consist mainly of setting up a new behavioral economics lab in the US, running studies, data analysis using STATA, and assistance in writing academic papers.

Responsibilities:

Assist in preparing both lab experiments and field experiments in both developing countries and the US, through programming, survey design, literature search
Creating systems, recruiting subjects, and overseeing studies in a new behavioral economics lab in the US
Data cleaning involving: (i) ensuring that the questionnaire patterns were preserved, (ii) outliers in the data are flagged and checked, (iii) identifiers are correct and correctly matched over time (iv) data across the various sections of the survey are consistent
Data analysis: Varying across projects; involving relevant regression analyses and making figures and tables for publications
Literature review and assistance in drafting papers
Assist in writing grant proposals
Assist in preparing IRB proposals and obtaining other research permits
Other duties as required

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with coursework in statistics or econometrics required
Thorough knowledge of STATA
Knowledge of MATLAB (or willingness to learn)
Interest in behavioral economics
Excellent communication and writing skills in English
Prior experience working with large and complex survey data
Familiarity with randomized controlled trials
