Job Description:

Support the Head of North America Economics and his team in their coverage of the US and Canadian economy, and in the preparation of published economic research. These publications may range from short reactions to developing events through to in-depth thematic studies. Assist with modeling, data management and responding to client requests as well as with report production and distribution. Be a general liaison with representatives from other areas of Citi Research (CR).

Citi Research (CR) focuses on delivering the highest quality investment insights to clients on a global basis. The unit includes Equity and Fixed Income research as well as Economic analysis and has staff in 25 locations around the world. CR is committed to maintaining the highest level of independence and objectivity in its proprietary products and insights.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform duties that include the following:

Collecting, processing and analyzing economic, financial, social and political data from a variety of databases and using a variety of methodologies
Presenting and summarizing data, insights or relevant literature in a structured and concise manner
Maintain and develop databases for analyzing economic, financial, social and political developments and trends.
Prepare / maintain various economic models for use in research reports on a variety of topics
Maintaining and developing marketing materials, especially presentations.
Other ad hoc tasks or projects, including handling bespoke requests from clients.
Work closely with Citi's global team of economists and support staff to achieve the publication and presentation of research in a variety of printed and electronic formats.
Carry out research on economic trends, themes and changes in the market environment.

Knowledge/Experience:

Relevant work experience in a data-intensive environment in economics, preferably but not necessarily restricted to being in a central bank, financial institution, policy institution, academic institution, or "think tank."
Experience in collecting, processing and analyzing data in a largely self-directed manner.
Demonstration of an understanding and enthusiasm for economic and market analysis.

Qualifications

An understanding of statistical techniques and the ability to collect, manage, handle and analyze data and databases efficiently.

Familiarity with macroeconomic and financial concepts and some experience finding and obtaining data from major economic databases.
Demonstrated understanding of and strong interest in core economic methodologies and theoretical frameworks.
Reasonable understanding of current economic developments and their likely impact on the US and global economy.
Solid data manipulation skills and a high degree of comfort with MS office applications (e.g., Work, Excel, Powerpoint) as well as some statistical or econometric software (e.g. EViews, Stata, Matlab); confidence in maintaining and updating models, programs and applications.
An undergraduate degree in Economics or an allied subject, especially Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering
Accuracy with a strong attention to detail.
Methodical approach and strong organizational capabilities.
Efficiency and speed in carrying out tasks.
Good interpersonal skills and proven team player.
Ability and willingness to learn quickly about new subjects.
Possess a positive attitude, drive and initiative.
