About the Opportunity:

Compass Lexecon is interviewing for the position of Senior Economist for its International Arbitration Practice. The Sr. Economist works with other Compass Lexecon staff, including its academic experts to identify key economic issues, develop analytical approaches, and oversee as project manager the technical implementation of valuation and damages assessments. Other responsibilities include performing quantitative and qualitative research, drafting expert reports, and communicating and presenting results both internally to colleagues and externally to clients and counsel. The Sr. Economist will often assist experts in their preparation for testimony in arbitration (often under ICSID, UNCITRAL, ICC or similar rules). The Sr. Economist will be responsible for managing day-to-day activities of projects, including working with other staff, academic experts and clients, budgeting, planning, as well as training and mentoring of junior staff. As skills and competencies develop, there will be greater scope for independent work and broader client interaction. The Sr. Economist will mentor junior staff and contribute to Analyst training and recruiting.

Primary Responsibilities:

We seek candidates who possess strong academic backgrounds. Preferred applicants will have completed significant coursework in economics, finance, or related areas, with particular experience in corporate finance, valuation, cost of capital, implementation of discounted cash flow models as well as the application of the market approach to valuation. Demonstration of quantitative skills, writing ability, and qualitative skills are required. Candidates must be highly motivated, analytical, detail oriented, able to work independently or in teams, and have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree (or its equivalent) in economics or a related discipline
Minimum five years of relevant work experience.
Valuation analysis experience

Preferred Skills:

PhD is a plus
International experience is a plus
CFA is a plus
Prior experience working with valuations in foreign countries
Prior experience working in inflationary environments
Prior experience assessing risk in other countries
