Use your analytical expertise to focus our attention on the right issues and risks.

In 2013, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) became the new regulator of the UK financial services industry. With an updated structure and vision, we are striving to make financial markets work well to ensure a fair deal for all. The Policy, Risk & Research (PRR) Division plays a key role in this through the provision of data and intelligence to inform the operations of the FCA. Within it the Strategic Risk Analysis Team delivers research and analysis to provide the organisation with an alternative view on its external risk portfolio across financial markets.

This varied and creative role will see you challenging whether the FCA is identifying, measuring and mitigating the right risks and focusing on the right issues. You will use your expertise and engage with specialists from across the business to undertake statistical and qualitative analysis to build an alternative view on the external environment and how it impacts our objectives and regulatory approach. You will communicate your analysis to a wide range of stakeholders including senior management, through written notes and presentations. The role will involve frequent brainstorming and analysis of market and economic trends. It's a chance to influence our board members and shape our conduct and prudential agenda.

Some main objectives of the role will include:
Using a combination of external data and qualitative sources on economic, market and consumer trends and developments, to provide value-add analysis to help the organisation challenge itself on whether it is focusing on the 'right issues'. In particular focusing on consumer credit markets, participants and consumers
Assessing the impact of changes in the macro-environment on financial services sector and consumers and draw out conduct implications across markets and consumers
Undertaking research and analyses to maintain a current and independent view of risks and developments in the consumer credit markets, using market data reports, research, data analysis and deep dives to explore areas of interest and emerging risks
Delivering regular insightful pieces of analysis and forming clear narratives which link the macro-picture with firm and consumer developments

You'll come to us with proven analytical and research experience, preferably a macroeconomics background and a strong understanding of the consumer credit market. Confident working independently and willing to see your role change with the risk landscape, you will have the ability to look at the bigger picture. Above all, you will need proven qualitative and quantitative analysis skills together with the interpersonal skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.

As well as an attractive salary and benefits package, the role offers a unique insight into the operations of the FCA across its full range of activities. You will also have the opportunity to gain experience in risk management and strategy at an exciting time for risk and regulation.
